There has been a lot of chaos and confusion for selection of the Du Plessis in the South African squad for the T20 World Cup. Du Plessis is among a group of players who are not in contract with the Cricket South Africa and they are selected only if there are any free agents to play for the Proteas.

Smith was a Director of Cricket at the Cricket South Africa when it was decided that free agents would not be the part of the game as decided in the last year’s Dubai event.

He mentioned in a speech that “South Africa have got an equation where they need to figure out the best XI. Since players are playing around different leagues, it needs to be seen that how much time the players are give to South African team to lead the World cup.”
